Forest Service is an Executive Agency within the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. We aim to contribute to the economic development of the entire forestry sector in Northern Ireland, whilst at the same time promoting the sustainable management of forests for multiple use and conserving and enhancing the rural environment.

Forest Service encourages the extension of the areas of public and private woodland in Northern Ireland, promotes the supply of wood from within Northern Ireland for industrial use, and encourages access to and use of Northern Ireland forests, while protecting and conserving forests and the associated areas of special natural and heritage interest.

A forest visitor survey has recently been published indicating approximately 4.7 million visits to Forest Service woodlands annually.
The survey was carried out by an independent research company and also includes findings on visitor profiles, site satisfaction and economic value of forest visits.
