1st February 2005
Following a review of fees and charges, the Forest Service is pleased to announce it will not be raising fees and charges in 2005.
Access to most forests in Northern Ireland is free, but at the 9 most popular sites an entrance fee is levied. This is in compliance with the Fees and Charges Guide, which requires government bodies to recover costs where possible. The Forest Service is required to break even on its camping and caravanning activities
A spokesperson for the Forest Service said:
“We have been able to resist inflationary pressures and hold entrance and other charges at their current levels, to encourage greater access by visitors”.
There were over 379,000 day visitors to charged recreation areas in the last financial year.
Notes for Editors:
A full list of revised charges is attached, and is also available on the Forest Service website www.forestserviceni.gov.uk
The new charges will be effective from 1 February 2005 to 31 December 2005.
