Glenariff Forest Park - Sunday 18 September, 1pm – 4pm.
This Sunday at Glenariff Forest Park Exhibition Centre there will be lots to do. As well as the usual puzzles and crafts with the Red Squirrel theme, our local Storyteller, Liz Weir, will be there to tell us about “Squirrel Nutkin” and lots of other forest tales.
Red squirrels are regularly spotted in the forest. We can’t guarantee that the squirrels will be about during these events, but we can show signs of where the squirrels have been. By learning more about the red squirrels and the challenges they face you should be more able to track them in the forest environment.
These endangered animals are struggling to survive against the pressures of the invading grey squirrel, and the loss of suitable forests to live in. Red squirrel conservation is a component of the Sustainable Forest Management strategy that underpins all Forest Service activities and planning. We can better protect this lovely native creature by learning how it lives, and what it needs to survive.
