The forest open day will begin at Lisbane, Co Down at 10.30 am and conclude at 4.30 pm at Belvoir Park Forest. The open day aims to show people how they can establish their own woodland by visiting a privately owned wood on the outskirts of Lisbane, followed by a visit to Belvoir Park Forest to appreciate the complexities of managing a well used public forest.
The Lisbane woodland offers visitors the chance to see a developing woodland comprising of a mixture of species and to learn how the woodland was established and to discuss its future management plans. The visit is by permission of Dr John Donaldson and will be led by Jim Sutherland, Forest Service, Private Woodlands, Branch Head.
John Watson, District Forest Officer will be leading on the tour of Belvoir Park Forest. During a walking tour John Watson will talk about the complexities of managing this unique urban forest and the way in which local people contribute to forest planning through a consultation process.
