The Forestry Bill

Summary:

The new Forestry Bill defines forestry in wider terms to include its economic, social and recreational, and environmental dimensions. Traditional forestry as we know it- the production and supply of timber will continue- it is an important source of rural employment. However, our forests also offer valuable social, health and recreational benefits. They have a crucial environmental and biodiversity role, and are a precious legacy for generations to come. This is why modern forestry is about the sustainable management of our existing woods and forests, and why we aim to double our forest cover over the next fifty years.
