DARD Equality Scheme (2011)
As a large public service provider DARD has statutory equality duties to meet under Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998. DARD has an Equality Scheme, which sets clearly out how we will comply with these equality duties. Our Equality Scheme sets out the actions we are taking to meet our equality duties and to ensure that equality is central to our policy and decision-making processes.
By screening our new and revised policies at an early stage, we can identify those policies that are most likely to impact significantly on different groups of people, and to carry out Equality Impact Assessments (EQIAs).
In 2007, the Department was required to conduct a five-year review of its Equality Scheme. This five-year review included both backward and forward-looking elements and highlighted what DARD had achieved, what remained to be done, how to build on success and how to meet the challenges identified.
The department was required to submit a new Equality Scheme to the Equality Commission by 1 May 2011.
