European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages

On 2nd March 2000, the UK Government signed up to the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages. This Charter is an international convention designed to protect and promote regional and minority languages. Departments now have an obligation to meet commitments made in the Charter in respect of Irish and Ulster-Scots.
