Animal By-Products Legislation

The Animal By-Products (Enforcement) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2011 (SR No. 124) came into operation in Northern Ireland on 19 March 2011. This legislation, which replaced regulations made in 2003, will provide the necessary powers in Northern Ireland to administer and enforce the provisions of EU Regulations 1069/2009 and 142/2011 which lays down rules for the use and disposal of animal by-products i.e. entire bodies, parts of animals and products of animal origin, not intended for human consumption. The purpose of the legislation is to safeguard public and animal health by ensuring the safe collection, transport, processing and disposal of animal by-products.
