Repeat BrBME positive results
Information on the actions taken should a herd give repeated positive results to BrBME tests.
Actions taken for repeat positive results
Some herds yield positive results to bulk milk tests month after month despite the fact that blood tests reveal no sign of disease in the herd. The assumption is that this is caused by interference from antibodies to other diseases. While this situation continues, the test is, of course, of no value in detecting the introduction of Brucellosis to such herds. In such cases we carry out individual milk sampling of cows in these herds, and in all cases we have been able to identify the offending animals (ranging from one to four). The Department has slaughtered the animals in question. All herds in which this has been done have gone on to produce negative results to the Brucellosis Bulk Milk ELISA (Enzyme Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay)(BrBME).
