Criteria for approval of isolation facilities
Animals
- The animals entering the approved Isolation Facility must be individually identified in accordance with current legislation. Animals must remain in isolation for at least 6 consecutive days after moving onto the farm before mixing with other animals on the farm or onward movement to another premises The welfare of animals in isolation must be catered for and the Isolation Facility should be appropriate for the species for which it was intended. Mixing of cattle and sheep will be permitted.
- The animals in isolation must be inspected by the owner or person in charge of them at least daily for signs of disease. Please see checklist. If you are in any doubt you should contact your Private Veterinary Practitioner.
Sharing of facilities
- If animals are moved onto an Isolation Facility in which other animals are already present, no animal may leave the facility until the last animal moved into the facility has completed its period of isolation.
Period of Isolation
- Animals brought onto the on farm Isolation Facility must remain in isolation for at least 6 consecutive calendar days and may not leave the facility until the last animal moved in has completed its 6 day period of isolation.
