Consultation on Proposed Strangford Lough Pot Fishing Management Plan
The Department has been working with the industry and other stakeholders on a plan to ensure the sustainable long term development of pot fishing in Strangford Lough. We now wish to consult with stakeholders and all individuals with an interest in Strangford Lough on our proposed Strangford Lough Pot Fishing Management Plan.
The Department is concerned about the risk of uncontrolled expansion of pot fishing in the Lough, which could damage fish stocks, depress fishing income of existing fisheries and impact on the Lough's designated habitat and species.
Following the consultation we will consider the responses received and prepare regulations to put the new management plan arrangements into effect.
The consultation will run from Monday 6th April until Monday 6th July 2009.
