Implementation of EU Regulation 882/2004 (OFFC)
Consultation on The Official Controls (Animals, Feed and Food) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006
The purpose of this consultation is to seek your views on the provisions we are proposing in the above Statutory Rule (S.R.) – The Official Controls (Animals, Feed and Food) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006. The S.R. would give effect in Northern Ireland to parts of Regulation (EC) 882/2004 on official controls performed to ensure the verification of compliance with feed and food law, animal health and welfare rules (“Regulation 882/2004”).
Regulation 882/2004 requires Member States to carry out checks (official controls) to verify compliance with feed and food law and animal health and welfare rules to a consistent standard and on a risk basis.
By harmonising the approach to official controls Regulation 882/2004 aims to ensure the safety and quality of feed and food, to prevent the spread of animal diseases and to contribute to the humane treatment of animals across the EU and in third countries.
Responses to the consultation are requested by 8 January 2007.
