Consultation on the Diseases of Animals (Importation of Machinery and Vehicles) Order (Northern Ireland) 2009
The Department is carrying out a consultation on the introduction of the Diseases of Animals (Importation of Machinery and Vehicles) Order (Northern Ireland) 2009.
The Diseases of Animals (Importation of Machinery) Order (Northern Ireland) 1979 prohibits the importation of used machinery into Northern Ireland, unless such machinery has been thoroughly cleansed and disinfected as prescribed in the Schedule to the legislation.
The proposed new legislation will replace the 1979 Order. Its aim is to strengthen controls on the import of machinery for the prevention of disease. The general rules governing the importation of machinery remain the same, however some changes have been made to ensure that our disease control measures are as robust as possible.
We welcome your views on the proposed legislation. The consultation will run from Monday 22 June until Tuesday 15 September 2009.
