Second Consultation on Proposals for Revised Compensation Arrangements for Bovine TB and Brucellosis

This consultation closed on 2 December 2011
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) conducted a further public consultation from 5 October 2011 to 2 December 2011 on revised proposals for the introduction of changes to compensation arrangements for cattle slaughtered for bovine tuberculosis (TB) and brucellosis.

The Proposal

The Department, after reviewing the responses to its earlier consultation exercise on TB and brucellosis compensation arrangements - and having received advice from the ARD Committee - is proposing that animals will continue to be valued on an individual basis and that a cap on compensation be applied. We also propose to reduce compensation for brucellosis in-contact animals to a rate of 75%; that is to the same level we already apply in relation to brucellosis reactors.
The consultation documentation outlines a number of ways in which a cap on compensation could be applied.
