Consultation on Proposals for the Introduction of Revised Compensation Arrangements for Bovine TB and Brucellosis

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) conducted a public consultation from 23 February 2011 to 21 April 2011 on its proposals to revise compensation arrangements for cattle slaughtered for bovine tuberculosis (TB) and brucellosis.

The Proposal

The Department is proposing to:
  1. Introduce a system of table valuation for bovine animals slaughtered as a result of TB or brucellosis; and
  2. Reduce the rate of compensation paid for animals removed as brucellosis in-contacts from 100% of market value to 75% of the appropriate entry in the valuation tables.
