Quota
Quota Management
Fishing activity is regulated at European level, by allocation of 'Total Allowable Catches' (TACs) to defined individual fishing areas. Within these TACs, each member state is granted quota allocations. The Northern Ireland allocations are managed by two local Producer Organisations (POs), overseen by the Department, within the UK wide quota management system.
Quota Management Change Programme
The UK Quota Management Change Programme was launched on 14 July 2005 with the aim of delivering improvements in the UK's quota management system. In consultation with stakeholders, Fisheries Administrations are seeking to develop, by 2008, a programme for change to deliver the benefits of individual quota landings and transferability.
