Alien and Locally Absent Species in Aquaculture
On 11 June 2007 the European Commission introduced Council Regulation (EC) No 708/2007 concerning use of alien and locally absent species in aquaculture.
In accordance with the provisions of Article 4 of Commission Regulation (EC) No 535/2008 the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has introduced an information system containing the following details:
Aquaculture operators intending to undertake the introduction of an alien species or the translocation of a locally absent species must apply for a permit from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. The application must be accompanied by a dossier containing the information listed in Annex 1 of Council Regulation (EC) No 708/2007.
