Northern Ireland Fleet Futures Analysis

Following publication of the Net Benefits report, DARD commissioned research into the long-run profitability and stock recovery of the Northern Ireland whitefish fleet.

The analysis was undertaken by Diana Tingley, Research Fellow, CEMARE (University of Portsmouth) between December 2004 and August 2005 and a copy of the report can be viewed at the link below.

This report provides a record of the methodology used to develop the ‘Northern Ireland Fleet Futures Analysis (2004-2013)’ and  details and discusses the results.  The report begins with an overview of the Northern Ireland fishing sector and reviews the trends in fleet capacity over the last decade.  The main body of the report is devoted to the analytical work and covers the methodology adopted, identifies the data sources and presents and interprets the results.
