Farm Modernisation Programme
What is the Farm Modernisation Programme?
Farm Modernisation Programme (FMP) aims to contribute to the competitiveness of agricultural and horticultural farm businesses in Northern Ireland. This will be achieved by providing financial support to existing farm businesses to improve the overall performance of their farm through modernisation under six key priority investment areas:
- Introduction of new technologies and innovation;
- Improved animal health and welfare;
- Increased hygiene control and product storage;
- Enhanced occupational safety and business efficiency;
- Increased energy efficiency; and
- Enhanced environmental status.
Who can apply?
Agricultural and horticultural farm businesses that have a Category 1 DARD Farm Business Identification number are eligible to apply.
When will the FMP open for receipt of applications?
Funding under the FMP will be delivered over a series of application periods or tranches:
- FMP Tranche 1 closed for applications on Tuesday 31 March 2009, and all awards for funding under this tranche have been made.
- FMP Tranche 2 will be open for receipt of applications from Monday 18 October 2010 until 4.00pm on Friday 26 November 2010. Applicants will be able to submit an application on-line.
What can Tranche 2 of the FMP fund?
Tranche 2 of the FMP will provide financial support towards the purchase of new items of plant, machinery and equipment from a pre-defined list of eligible items. The list of eligible items for Tranche 2 has been expanded from that available under Tranche 1.
- Only equipment covered on the Tranche 2 list of eligible items will be considered for funding.
- The amount of financial payable will be 40% of the eligible invoiced purchase cost of the item up to the maximum amount payable for an individual item.
- The maximum support payable per farm business will be capped at £4,000.

FMP Tranche 2 Information Pack containing an explanatory booklet, important notes, list of eligible items and an application form* is now available. (*a hard copy application form will be accepted from anyone not wishing to submit an on-line application).
