PA184/A/08 Follow The Code

2 September 2008
DARD has just published its latest Code of Good Agricultural Practice for the prevention of pollution of water, air and soil.  These are undoubtedly three of our most important natural resources and must be protected.
The fully revised Code combines legislative requirements with practical advice on management practices designed to reduce any negative impact from farming activities on the environment.  It takes account of environmental protection legislation, including the Nitrates Directive and the Waste Management Regulations, which have been introduced since the previous publication in 2003.
Who is this Code for?
The Code is for farmers, growers, contractors and others involved in agricultural activities.
What is the Code about?
The Code is about how you can help to avoid polluting water, air and soil.  It provides practical guidance and sets out good management practices that you can use on your farm.
Why does this Code matter to you?
When claiming Single Farm Payment (SFP) and other direct payments Cross-Compliance conditions must be met.  Following recommendations in this Code will help applicants meet these conditions.  It will also help farmers, as custodians of the countryside, rise to the challenge of using our natural resources in a sustainable way.
You can access the revised Code at www.dardni.gov.uk or alternatively you may collect a printed copy or a CD version at your DARD office.
