Draft Welfare Code of Recommendation - Meat Chickens and Breeding Chickens

Summary:

The purpose of the code is to provide practical guidance in relation to the provisions in the Welfare of Farmed Animals Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000 (as amended) (S.R. 2000 No. 270), in relation to the welfare of meat chickens (broilers). Parts of the Welfare of Animals Act (Northern Ireland) 1972 may also be relevant, for example Section 1 of the Welfare of Animals Act (Northern Ireland) 1972 that makes it an offence to cause unnecessary suffering to livestock on agricultural land.
