ESA Biological Monitoring 2005 report

Summary:

The ten-year biological monitoring programme of the ESA scheme has found evidence that the scheme has met the objective of maintaining and enhancing biodiversity on land under agreement. Monitoring has also determined that on some habitats such as degraded heath and woodland, modifications to management prescriptions may prove beneficial. Possible areas of concern are overgrazing of wet heath and lack of grazing in woodlands leading to loss of species diversity. These have since been addressed with the introduction of revised prescriptions under the new ESA scheme.
