The EC Feed Hygiene Regulation (183/2005) requires businesses that manufacture, market or use animal feeds to be registered with or approved by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) in Northern Ireland. Application for registration of premises is required under The Feed (Hygiene and Enforcement) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005 and Regulation (EC) 183/2005 laying down requirements for feed hygiene. Types of activities requiring registration include: Manufacture and/or placing on the market of feed materials (other than those subject to approval); the transport and storage of feed and feed products; on farm mixers; food businesses selling co-products of the food industry; livestock farms which do not mix feeds or mix feeds without additives; and arable farms growing or selling crops for feed.
