Summary:

The New Entrants Scheme closed 27 February 2009; the following is for information only. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) has developed the New Entrants Scheme (NES) for Northern Ireland in accordance with the EU Rural Development Regulation EC (1257/99). This Regulation makes provision for assisting the start up of young farmers under the age of 40 who possess adequate skills and competences and are established as head of a holding for the first time. The holding must be economically viable and must comply with environmental, hygiene and animal welfare standards.
