The AFBI Environment and Renewable Energy Centre, allocated £1.8m over the years 2008/09 2010/11, will carry out research on the following approved projects: <BR /> maximising the biogas output from the anaerobic digestion of animal manures;<BR /> the bioremediation of farm dirty water through short rotation willows being grown for biomass production;<BR /> the establishment and management of miscanthus as an energy crop;<BR /> methods for harvesting and utilising forest brash for energy;<BR /> evaluation of systems for harvesting, drying and storage of SRC willow and other biomass crops;<BR /> the performance of solar panels in delivering hot water for dairy parlours; and<BR /> evaluation of reductions in carbon emissions resulting from the adoption of renewable energy schemes at AFBI Hillsborough.
