How to access information from DARD

The freedom of Information (FOI) Act 2000 provides the right to request information held by a public body.  This page describes how to request information from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development including the use of our Publication Scheme.

DARD Publication Scheme

DARD will publish and release information proactively in response to the needs of the community, taking into account of areas where there is a recognised public interest in the information held by the Department.  Much of this information can be obtained through the Department's Publication Scheme and where possible we have made this information accessible via the electronic version of the scheme on our Website.
If you are seeking information, which you believe is held by DARD, you should first check the Publication Scheme to see if the classes of information listed in the scheme cover your requirements.  This may be the quickest way to obtain the information that you are looking for.  If you cannot find what you need in the Publication Scheme, you can apply to the Department for the information.

How do I request information from DARD?

You can apply for access to information not listed in the Publication Scheme.  This should be done in writing (including email) for requests for information under the FOI Act, although we will also accept requests for Environmental Information by phone or in person at one of our offices.  An electronic form is available below to assist you in providing us with information we need to process the request as quickly as possible.  In certian circumstances you may be required to pay a fee before the information can be provided.
If you are uncertain of how to make a request or want guidance on the information held by the department, you can contact the Information Management Branch and we will arrange for someone to assist you.
When requesting information please include the following details:
A leaflet is also available explaining how we process requests for information.

How long will it take to get information from DARD?

The legislation requires us to respond to your request for information as soon as possible after it is received, and not later than 20 working days after the date of receipt.  This timescale may occasionally have to be extended if the information requested is very extensive and therefore takes a long time to gather, or if we have to consider if providing it is in the public interest, or if we are waiting for you to pay a fee.
It will help us to process your request your request more quickly if you can be as specific as possible about what information you want.  If necessary, we will contact you to ensure we understand your request clearly and this may add to the time we need to respond.  It is also important to tell us whether you want the information sent to you on paper or by email, and whether you have any particular requirements.  Information may be available in other languages or formats on request.
