Personal imports from European Union countries

Information on imports of animal products, for personal use, that have been purchased in other European Union (EU) countries, also including Norway and the Canary Islands.

Personal import limits for EU countries

Personal imports are imports of meat and other animal products bought in other countries and brought back for personal consumption.
We strongly advise travellers to only buy products from retail outlets. This is because from time to time, special restrictions on exports might be introduced by any EU country (or the European Commission) if there is an outbreak of animal disease in its territory.
In these cases rules will be put in place to ensure that no infected meat or other animal products are put on sale. Therefore no special precautions are needed when bringing back animal products bought in retail outlets.
EU personal import rules also apply to Norway and the Canary Islands.
