Health and Safety Policy
HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and its Agencies are committed to ensuring, as far as is reasonably practical, the health safety and welfare of all its employees and all others who may be affected by the Department’s undertakings. This policy, endorsed by the Permanent Secretary, outlines how the Department will comply with its statutory duties contained in the Health and Safety at Work Order (NI) 1978, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (NI) 2000 and all other relevant legislation and approved Codes of Practice. The Department will ensure, as far as is reasonably practical,
- the health safety and welfare of its staff at work and others persons who may be affected by its operations;
- that the discharge of these responsibilities shall be an integral part of the duties and objectives of the Department.
This policy will be implemented through the achievement of key health and safety standards, co-operation of all staff and with joint consultation with Trade Unions. The effectiveness of the policy will be monitored and reviewed as required. The organisation section of the document outlines the responsibilities for health and safety throughout the Department, clearly identifying key roles at every level. Reference is made to general arrangements and further guidance available to staff.
