• Biodiversity Monitoring of the Countryside Management Scheme - Baseline Report 2003
  Baseline surveys of habitats under Countryside Management Scheme agreement were carried out in 2002 and 2003. Biological monitoring will form the core of a programme to evaluate the effectiveness of the CMS management prescriptions in maintaining and enhancing biodiversity, landscape and heritage features. A further important aim of the monitoring programme will be to assess the contribution of the scheme in delivering targets for Northern Ireland Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) habitats and species.
• Biodiversity Monitoring of the Countryside Management Scheme - Final Report 2008
  Biological monitoring forms the core of a programme to evaluate the effectiveness of CMS management prescriptions in maintaining and enhancing biodiversity. The main focus of the biological monitoring is on assessing changes in diversity within plant and invertebrate communities. This final report suggests that important habitats were being maintained in terms of botanical diversity and composition since baseline.

  On 7 November 2012, DARD held an Agri-environment Stakeholder Workshop at AFBI Hillsborough to discuss DARD’s future Agri-environment Programme.
• Biological Monitoring of Cuilcagh Mountain 1999-2004
  Cuilcagh Mountain contains a unique and interesting collection of habitats, geophysical and biological features and has the second largest expanse of intact blanket bog in Northern Ireland. The summit contains a good example of montane heath, a scarce habitat in Northern Ireland. Limestone grassland occurs on the lower slopes. Cuilcagh Mountain falls within the West Fermanagh and Erne Lakeland Environmentally Sensitive Area and the majority of the land has been managed under ESA agreement since 1993. Plant and invertebrate communities were monitored in 1999 to determine the effect of current designations on aspects of the biodiversity of Cuilcagh Mountain.
• Biological Monitoring of the Organic Farming Scheme 2004
  This report summarises the results of baseline biological monitoring of farms in the Organic Farming Scheme. Baseline surveys form a ‘yardstick’ in terms of biodiversity and it is not until a re-survey has been completed that the effects of any management practices can be determined. These farms have only been managed organically for a short period and it may take many years before any benefits for biodiversity to become apparent.
