EU Floods Directive

Flooding cannot be entirely prevented but by working together we can plan to effectively manage the risk.
The EU Floods Directive provides a new approach to managing flood risk. It is a long term plan which will manage flood risk on a catchment wide scale. Read more about this new approach in the About FD section.
Through the Floods Directive, we will identify the areas in Northern Ireland which have the most significant flood risk. Plans will then be developed to manage the flood risk in these areas which will reduce the adverse consequences that flooding has on human health, the environment, our cultural heritage and economic activity.
These webpages have been created to provide information and keep you informed of our progress in delivering the Floods Directive. During the process there will be opportunities for you to become involved and these will be publicised in your local areas as well as on this website. Visit the who is involved section for more information.
