Who is involved?
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, through the Rivers Agency, is leading the delivery of the Floods Directive. This role is known as ‘competent authority’ and it is a legislative requirement that it is done with the cooperation of other government departments, agencies and stakeholders that have a flood risk management role.
A number of groups have been established to ensure that the relevant stakeholders inform and shape the process at the appropriate times.
As the Directive develops and work begins on draft
flood risk management plans (stage 4), a number of local area forums will be established, similar to the Greater Belfast Strategic Flood Forum which has been set up as a pilot study. During this stage the public will also have an important role to play and we will promote the opportunities for people to get involved.
