Flood Mapping Strategy (Interim) Documents
Rivers Agency is currently undertaking a structured program of mapping flood risk in Northern Ireland that will assist with the mapping requirements for:
- DOE Planning Service’s policy on planning and Flood Risk (PPS15); and
- the proposed EU Floods Directive.
The Flood Mapping Strategy (Interim) report proposes a range of strategic map series to be developed over the coming months and years. The first map series, the Base Maps, will include historic and predictive flood mapping, flood defence assets and watercourses. It is expected that the Base Maps will be available in March 2008 and, subject to licensing arrangements, it is intended to publish the maps online. In conjunction with the publication of the Base Maps the Agency is preparing a communication plan to raise awareness, manage expectations regarding the flood maps, and to promote Rivers Agency’s role with respect to flood risk management in the context of the Flood Management Policy Review.
