Nature Trail

The nature trail takes in many features of the old college estate (now Greenmount Campus part of the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise) including the old ice house, temple lake, trout pond, woodland areas and the walled garden in addition to the food production areas. It provides many environmental habitats and structures for design and maintenance by Horticulture and Countryside Management students including woodland, pathways, hedge and water features.
The trail has received from 8,000 -10,000 visitors per year since it was first established in 1979. Originally designed to encourage an interest in the countryside and demonstrate food production techniques that are compatible with the environment it has now been considerably revamped in recent months and is used by primary schools to deliver several key stage elements. Familiarisation tours are arranged for primary school staff who can then follow self-guided tours with their pupils.
