Welcome to the RuralNI cut flower and foliage section. From within this area of the portal you can find information on the latest developments within the cut flower and foliage sector in Northern Ireland.

CAFRE has contributed to the growth of the cut flower industry from an estimated farm-gate value of around £200,000 in 2003 to an estimated farm-gate value of around £850,000 in 2008, (see chart below left).

Locally produced flowers have become popular with many Northern Ireland consumers and there are currently around 30 growers producing cut flowers and foliage for local, mainland UK, Republic of Ireland and Dutch markets, (see chart above right).

  • A local cut flower  grower to M&S  Shane Donnelly of Greenisland Flowers, Portadown has become the 2009 winner of the Plan A in Action’ Award for his contribution to the growth of the cut flower industry in Northern Ireland.  The award was presented to Shane at a special presentation ceremony at the Royal Balmoral Show in Belfast within the M&S Marquee.  M&S Press Article on the presentation of the Plan A Award.
