Irrigation

The bags are irrigated using either drip or trickle irrigation systems. The drip system is preferable but more expensive than the trickle system, and three drippers with an output of 2 litres/hour are recommended for each 0.90 m bag.
Alternatively a trickle irrigation system such as T-Tape laid along the top of the bags could also be used.
To ensure that conductivity does not build up in the bags a percentage of run-off is required. The general recommendation is for 20% run-off. The percentage run-off is calculated by monitoring the amount of water delivered by the drippers and comparing it with the volume of water dripping out of the bag.
Irrigation should be given little and often. A timer which can be set to come on up to 15 times per day is a good investment and ensures that the bags never dry out even on the hottest days.
