Agri-environment Schemes
Agri-environment schemes provide funding to farmers and land managers to farm in a way that supports biodiversity, enhances the landscape, and improves the quality of water, air and soil.

Current Agri-environment schemes

These are part-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).
The budget available for the agri-enviornment programme is £219 million, and the target is to maintain 40 percent of agricultural land under environmental enhancement agreement by 2013.
For information on the Agri-environment schemes under the Rural Development Programme 2000-2006, particularly the Environmentally Sensitive Areas Scheme and Countryside Management Scheme, please read the page on Agri-environment schemes 1988-2006.
