Can You Do More?
Richard Crowe, Countryside Management Branch, DARD
Are you one of almost 13,000 farmers now positively managing your land for the environment?
It is a great achievement - that as part of Environmentally Sensitive Areas or Countryside Management Scheme you have restored over 2000 km of hedgerows, planted over half million trees and sown 440 ha of crops for wild bird feeding. These are only a few of the measures to protect our landscape and heritage features, improve water quality and enhance biodiversity.
Hedging, wild bird cover, tree planting, grass margins – now’s the time to think about your agri-environment agreement with the help of your Department of Agriculture and Rural Devlopment (DARD), Countryside Management Adviser.
But you can achieve even more with the help and support of your local DARD Countryside Management Adviser. Farmers who are in a scheme four or five years are priority. A DARD adviser will be contacting all these landowners offering the opportunity to discuss your current agreement. This will help you to understand the requirements of your scheme and provide you with information on further options to benefit your business and the environment. Of course, you can contact your local adviser at any time to discuss your individual needs.
So, now’s the time to think about your Environmentally Sensitive Areas or Countryside Management Scheme and make positive changes to your agreement - with the help of your local DARD Countryside Management Adviser.
