Featured Farmer: Karl Mullan

Karl Mullan runs a suckler herd and poultry enterprise on his farm on the outskirts of Garvagh, Co Derry/Londonderry.
Karl first joined the Countryside Management Scheme in 2002.  Since that time he has been an enthusiastic participant actively promoting the benefits of good farming practice through Focus Farm workshops and hosting farm walks. In 2009 he was accepted into the new Northern Ireland Countryside Management Scheme (NICMS).
Habitats on the farm include species rich wet grassland (Coolnasillagh Area of Special Scientific Interest), and an area of broadleaved woodland.  He has enhanced his farm habitats through native tree planting, hedgerow restoration, wild bird cover, delayed cutting and grazing, and low input grassland.
In this video clip Karl explains more about his farm habitats.
