Bull beef
  • Bull calves kept entire sold 17 months at 420-430 kg
  • Approx 50% E grades and 50% U grades
  • Average price received for bulls in 2008 = £1138.25
Heifers
  • Maternal type heifers retained each year
    (10% Replacement rate)
  • Remainder go to a local butcher
  • Average carcase weight in 2008 = 321kg
  • Average price in 2008 = £876.27 (272p/Kg)

Cattle finishing system:

Bulls
  • Creep fed
  • Housed in Oct fed 2kg
  • Stepped up to 4-5 kg in April
  • 10kg at finishing stage
Heifers
  • 1st winter fed good silage only
  • Well grazed after early turnout
  • Fed good silage and meal for Christmas finish
