Farm details
Land:
- 212 acres
- 12 acres of winter wheat for crimping
- 8 acres of spring barley for feeding and to provide straw

Grassland:
- Significant reseeding in the past 3-4 years
- Red clover present for silage production
- Rotational grazing adopted
Fertiliser policy:
- Soil analysis carried out spring 2007
- More reliance on white clover and Slurry
Livestock:
- Aubrac and Aubrac x Saler cows
- Mainly Feb – Mar calving
- 3 Pedigree bulls purchased from France
Bull beef
- Bull calves kept entire sold 17 months at 420-430 kg
- Approx 50% E grades and 50% U grades
- Average price received for bulls in 2008 = £1138.25
Heifers
- Maternal type heifers retained each year
(10% Replacement rate) - Remainder go to a local butcher
- Average carcase weight in 2008 = 321kg
- Average price in 2008 = £876.27 (272p/Kg)
Cattle finishing system:
Bulls
- Creep fed
- Housed in Oct fed 2kg
- Stepped up to 4-5 kg in April
- 10kg at finishing stage
Heifers
- 1st winter fed good silage only
- Well grazed after early turnout
- Fed good silage and meal for Christmas finish
