Management records

Milk recording is carried out twice per month. As the milk from the High Forage Herd is collected in the same tank as that from The Protein Improver Herd, twice monthly milk recording improves the accuracy of measuring compositional quality from each herd. Rolling average herd production data is calculated on a monthly basis for milk yield, milk from forage, concentrate use, milk compositional quality, milk hygienic quality, calvings percentage, and margin over feed per cow and per litre. Submission rate is calculated every three weeks during the breeding season and  conception rates and actual and projected calving indices ate the end of the calving and breeding seasons respectively. Condition score is assessed across the whole herd on a monthly basis to monitor body score changes. Silage intake is measured monthly for each group of cows during the housing period. Grass covers and grass quality are measured once per week during the summer grazing period.
