Derrylin Animal Health Challenge
A group of 25 dairy farmers from Kinawley and Derrylin, Co Fermanagh are participating in an Animal Health Challenge. The course is facilitated by local CAFRE Dairying Development Adviser Mr Alan Warnock, with specialist veterinary input by local veterinary surgeon Mr Gordon Grey. So far the sessions have dealt with mastitis, lameness, the transition cow and calf health. The subjects still to be considered are herd diseases and biosecurity. The farmers are finding the information gained about these diseases and the management practices which can help to reduce their incidence very worthwhile. In addition to Gordon Grey’s presentation there is useful discussion within the group by the members about their own experiences. A visit is planned to the Focus Farm of Mr. Alan Coalter at Ballinamallard next month.
