Diversification Challenge Programme Mentoring

Mentoring is a key aspect of the Diversification Challenge programme as it assists participants to apply programme learning to their new business enabling it to develop and grow.
Mentoring topic areas include:-
       Carrying out market research
       Dealing with business legislation
Finance and funding for the business
       Marketing the business
       Managing time more effectively
       Setting up suitable office systems
       Introducing ICT into the business
       Developing selling and presentation skills
The mentoring support is provided by the local Rural Enterprise advisers and other specialist mentors are drafted in when necessary. Mentoring is usually provided on a one-to one basis and the sessions which last up to three hours are organised at times and in venues to suit participant needs. During the sessions both parties will discuss, prioritise and agree on areas of work which need to be completed to allow business development to take place. The work is mostly completed by the participant between sessions.
On average participants on the Business Planning programme will receive up to five hours of mentoring support and those on the Business Start programme will receive up to 12 hours of mentoring support. Most participants find the support to be invaluable.
