Short Rotation Coppice Willow at Loughgall
CAFRE are running a workshop for anyone interested in growing Short Rotation Coppice (SRC) Willow on Tuesday 27 July at 2.00pm. Our hosts for the afternoon workshop are the Agri-Food & Biosciences Institute at Loughgall.
SRC willow offers business opportunities to grow a renewable energy crop which can contribute to meeting targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. During the afternoon visitors will see the most recent trials on new genotype selection, and the importance of planting genotype mixtures, along with issues relating to harvest intervals. The impact of pests and diseases, including some recent outbreaks of unusual insects will be discussed. There will be information on the nutrition of the crop and its potential for the bioremediation of effluents and sludge’s.
